Old Enough

By the time I’m of the age
to be old enough,
I’m old enough
to know better than
to believe that I’m
old enough.

No moral,
No lesson,
No wrap-up,
No summary.

It mists,
It rains,
It shines,
It glows.

I giggle,
I chortle,
I smirk,
I grin.

Knowing better,
wishing for more,
praying for the best,
denying what’s in front.

I’m old enough to
know, but young enough
to hate it.

Crap, I lost my cigarettes,
like a damn fool kid.
